Obituary for Hazel Joy Parsons (Harwood)

Hazel Joy Parsons (Harwood)
Hazel Joy Parsons of Robinson, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, April 11, 2017, at the age of 94 after a lengthy illness. Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday, April 15, 2017, at Pecan Grove Funeral Home Chapel, 3124 Robinson Drive with Rev. Brad Britton officiating. Interment will follow in Waco Memorial Park. Visitation will be 6 to 8 P.M. Friday at Pecan Grove.
Mrs. Parsons was a tenacious fighter who fought up until the very end just shy of her 95th birthday. She had fought and survived tuberculosis as a child, scarlet fever during her nursing years, ovarian cancer, colon cancer and numerous surgeries later in life. She had a will like no other. Her husband Charlie Parsons preceded her in death in 1990. Having never remarried, she spent many years volunteering at Providence Health Center, church functions, spending time with her grandchildren, and many hours on the golf course, a game she loved up until she was forced to give it up due to health reasons. She was also a registered nurse for many years before retiring. She and Charlie brought a camper and spent many years camping all over but it was at Norfolk Lake in Mountain Home, Arkansas that was most special to her. There, they spent countless years vacationing, boating and swimming with the same friends and family. At the end of every trip she had to have one last swim while Charlie waited impatiently in the car with it packed and ready to leave. She always had to have one more float in the lake.
Survivors include her three sons; Charles and wife Janet Parsons of Robinson, Jerry and wife Mary Parsons of Springfield, Illinois, and Lee and wife Lesslee Parsons of Rosenthal; four grandchildren Brian Parsons of Pasco, Washington, Stacy Peterson of Hewitt, Braxton Parsons of Austin, and Jim Long of Mohomet, Illinois; four great- grandchildren, Cody Peterson of Bedford, Cory Peterson of Hewitt, Ryan and Ray Long of Mohomet, Illinois. The family extends a very special thanks to her caregiver Janie Contreras, who spent countless hours as her companion, friend and partner in crime on their many adventures,
Now she is free to float for as long as she likes, no rush. Charlie has been waiting patiently for her for twenty-seven years. She will be missed but never forgotten.
