Obituary for Patricia "Pat" Carpenter Ling

Patricia "Pat" Carpenter Ling
Patricia “Pat” Carpenter Ling, 70, returned to her heavenly home on June 8, 2017 after a valiant battle with a long illness. Her devotion to her family and her firm belief in God supported her in her struggle and ultimately gave her peace. She was a loving wife, mother, Nanny, sister, aunt, and friend.
Pat was born to the late James and Frances Carpenter in Waco, TX on May 6, 1947. She graduated from University High School in 1965.
She married the love of her life, Clarence Lee Ling, on August 22, 1964 in Waco, TX and they were almost married for 53 years. Together they raised two sons with patience, values, and lots of laughter.
Pat was very involved with the Young at Heart class at her church, First Baptist Church Lorena, and was a member for over 35 years. She loved helping others in need in any way she could. She enjoyed driving them to movies, to doctor’s appointments, or to get an ice cream at Dairy Queen. She was kind and compassionate, and always had time for others.
She worked at Baylor University for almost 20 years. She received “Faculty Member of the Year” and was lovingly known as a second mom to students in the chemistry and physics department.
Pat is survived by her husband, Clarence, of Eddy; son Calvin Ling of Woodway; son Travis Ling and wife Heather of The Woodlands; grandchildren include: Chance Ling and wife Lisa; Collin Ling and fiancée Hailey; Aubrey and Canton Ling, and Sophie, Bradford, Carrigan, and Anabeth; great-grandchildren include: Tristan and Ryleigh. She leaves behind two brothers: James Carpenter of Arizona, and Don Carpenter and wife Gayle of Oakwood.
The family will receive visitors 3:00-5:00 P.M., Sunday, June 11, at Pecan Grove Funeral Home, 3124 Robinson Drive, Waco. Her funeral service will be held on Monday, June 12 at Pecan Grove Funeral Home at 10:00 A.M. with a graveside service following at Cottonwood Cemetery. A reception for the family will follow at First Baptist Church Lorena.
Pallbearers include: Raymond Wilcox of Lorena, Carl Geer of Hewitt, Butch Dulock of Lorena, Chance Ling of Lorena, Collin Ling of Temple, and Canton Ling of The Woodlands
The family would like to thank the staff and nurses at Westview Manor Nursing Home in McGregor and the staff and nurses at Baylor Scott and White Hillcrest Medical Center and Hospice in Waco for their devoted care and attention she was provided. Also, a special thank-you to all who visited and who sent all their love and prayers. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Lewy Body Dementia Foundation in Pat’s name, or http://www.lbda.org/.
